iPhone 17: Price, Release Date and Feature Rumours

22 November 2024

Even though the iPhone 16 only recently hit the shelves, rumours about the next Apple flagship are already gathering steam. We've gathered all the latest gossip to keep you in the know. Here's everything we’ve heard about the iPhone 17 so far:

iPhone 17 Release Date

Apple’s September launch tradition is pretty much set in stone at this point, so it’s a safe bet that we’ll see the iPhone 17 unveiled in September 2025.

If Apple follows its usual pattern, preorders could start on Friday 12th September, with handsets hitting stores on Friday 19th September 2025. We think this is a pretty safe bet based on the last couple of years.

iPhone 17 Price

Apple has kept launch prices stable for a few years, so there’s speculation that the iPhone 17 lineup will stick to the familiar price points, with the standard iPhone 17 retailing at £799, the iPhone 17 Plus at £899, the iPhone 17 Pro at £999, and the iPhone 17 Ultra costing £1,199.

Yes, those price tags are still intimidating (particularly the Ultra), but bleeding-edge tech doesn’t come cheap - particularly when Apple is investing so much time and energy into improving AI integrations, which could fundamentally change the way we use smartphones in the very near future.

iPhone 17 Design

First of all, we thought we’d see what AI thought the iPhone 17 might look like, and it went big!

iphone 17 fold

ChatGPT seems to think there’s a good chance the next iPhone will be foldable, and that it will have an extra, full-smartphone-sized screen on the front. This seems almost as unlikely as the six camera lenses on the back though.

We don’t think the next iPhone is going to be a foldable, but we do think the iPhone 17 might break away from Apple’s recent incremental design updates a little bit.

There are rumours it could have thinner bezels and move closer to a truly edge-to-edge display, as well as having a pill-shaped camera layout on the back. At least one model could feature an even more robust titanium frame, continuing the premium feel of the Pro and Ultra lines from previous generations.

And, of course, we can expect new colours. The trend for muted pastels might give way to bold, jewel tones this year—imagine deep emerald or sapphire hues. Very fancy!

iPhone 17 Features

The iPhone 17 is rumoured to pack in some game-changing features.

We could see the first instance of truly tactile solid-state buttons on an iPhone, where haptic feedback would simulate a click, even if there’s no moving part. There’s a sense of interaction that you get from keypads on older phones that makes them feel easier to type on, and replicating that could improve moment to moment usage.

We could also finally see a fully under-display Face ID, with the sensors beneath the screen, reducing the size of the notch—or eliminating it entirely. This would free up more screen-space and give a cleaner viewing experience when watching films and videos.

And as always, expect significant leaps in processing power. The A19 Bionic chip is rumoured to be faster and more energy-efficient, perfect for running advanced AI-powered features.

iPhone 17 Camera

Cameras are always a highlight, and the iPhone 17 is set to deliver improved night photography, thanks to an enhanced ultrawide sensor, as well as a periscope zoom lens on the Pro and Ultra models, offering up to 10x optical zoom. It could also offer expanded support for Spatial Video, allowing users to create 3D content ready for Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

Apple continues to face stiff competition in the camera arena, so expect them to pull out all the stops to stay ahead.

iPhone 17 Operating System

The iPhone 17 will launch with iOS 19, which is expected to focus heavily on on-device AI capabilities. Rumoured updates include real-time, AI-powered photo and video editing, smarter Siri commands that feel more conversational, and enhanced privacy features to keep your data safe and secure. It feels like we’re getting closer to a more overarching, interactive AI experience on iPhones, so watch this space.

Will It Be Worth the Upgrade?

If the rumours come true, the iPhone 17 could mark one of Apple’s biggest leaps forward in recent years. From cutting-edge design changes to powerful new features, this could be a must-have for tech enthusiasts.

Still, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement to see how much of the speculation comes true, but the signs are it could be a very interesting year for Apple.
